Welcome to ResearchConnectX (“RCX”, “the Platform”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the ResConX website, applications, and services (together, the “Services”). By creating an account or otherwise using the Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services.
1. Who We Are
ResearchConnectX is an AI-powered research collaboration platform that helps researchers discover collaborators, join and manage projects, run surveys, and participate in academic communities. The Services include semantic matching, profile enrichment from third-party academic sources, project and task management, and messaging features.
These Terms are between you and ResearchConnectX Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, whose registered office is at 128 City Road, London, United Kingdom, EC1V 2NX. Questions about these Terms can be sent to **support@rcx.ac**.
2. Eligibility and Accounts
You must be at least 18 years old and capable of entering into a binding contract to use the Services. By using the Services you represent that you meet these requirements.
You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide, for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials, and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly at support@rcx.ac if you suspect any unauthorised use of your account.
If you access the Services through an institution or organisation, additional terms set by that institution may apply, and your right to use the Services may depend on your continued affiliation with it.
3. Authentication and Third-Party Sign-In
RCX supports sign-in through third-party identity providers, including ORCID, Microsoft Azure AD, Google, and SAML2-based institutional single sign-on (SSO). When you connect one of these providers, you authorise us to receive and process the profile information that provider shares with us in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Your use of a third-party identity provider is also governed by that provider’s own terms and privacy policy. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party identity providers.
4. Researcher Profiles and Aggregated Data
To enrich your profile, RCX may aggregate publicly available academic information from external sources such as ORCID, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, OpenAlex, and PubMed. This aggregation is intended to save you time and improve matching quality.
You acknowledge that:
– Aggregated data originates from third parties and may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate. RCX does not warrant the accuracy of externally sourced information.
– You are responsible for reviewing and correcting your profile, and you may request removal of aggregated information that relates to you.
– Information drawn from external sources remains subject to the terms and licences of those sources.
5. AI-Powered Matching and Recommendations
The Services use artificial intelligence and semantic search to suggest potential collaborators, projects, conferences, surveys, and other recommendations. These outputs are generated automatically and are provided for informational purposes only.
AI-generated matches and recommendations may be inaccurate or incomplete and should not be relied upon as professional, legal, financial, or research advice. You are solely responsible for any decisions you make based on them, including decisions to contact, collaborate with, or share information with other users.
6. User Content
You retain ownership of the content you create, upload, or submit through the Services, including profile details, projects, tasks, messages, and surveys (“User Content”).
By submitting User Content, you grant RCX a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, and process that content solely to operate, provide, secure, and improve the Services.
You represent that you have the necessary rights to submit your User Content and that it does not infringe the rights of others or violate any applicable law.
7. Surveys and Research Conduct
The Services include tools for building and distributing surveys and collecting responses. If you create or distribute surveys, you are solely responsible for:
– Obtaining any required ethical approvals (for example, IRB or institutional ethics committee approval) before collecting data;
– Obtaining informed consent from participants where required;
– Complying with all applicable laws governing research, data protection, and the processing of personal and special-category data;
– The content, lawfulness, and use of any data you collect.
RCX provides these tools “as is” and is not a party to, and accepts no responsibility for, the research you conduct using them.
8. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
– Use the Services for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purpose;
– Harass, impersonate, or misrepresent your identity or affiliation;
– Upload malware or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Services, other accounts, or related systems;
– Scrape, harvest, or extract data from the Services except through features we expressly provide;
– Use the Services or any AI features to build a competing product, or to send spam or unsolicited communications;
– Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Services.
We may suspend or terminate access for conduct that we reasonably believe violates these Terms or harms other users, us, or third parties.
9. Intellectual Property
The Services, including their software, design, text, graphics, and the RCX name and logo, are owned by ResearchConnectX or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the rights expressly granted to you in these Terms, no rights are transferred to you. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Services without our prior written consent.
10. Third-Party Services and Integrations
The Services integrate with and link to third-party services and data sources (including those listed above). We do not control and are not responsible for third-party services, their availability, or their content. Your use of any third-party service is at your own risk and subject to that service’s terms.
11. Subscriptions and Fees
Certain features may require a paid subscription. Where fees apply, the applicable pricing, billing cycle, and renewal terms will be presented to you before purchase. Unless stated otherwise, fees are non-refundable except where required by law. We may change pricing on a prospective basis with reasonable notice.
12. Privacy and Data Protection
Our handling of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy and, where applicable, our Data Protection Policy. By using the Services you acknowledge that personal data will be processed as described in those documents.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Services and close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Services. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification) will continue to apply.
14. Disclaimers
The Services are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any matches, recommendations, or aggregated data will be accurate or complete.
15. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ResearchConnectX and its officers, employees, and partners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the Services. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of these Terms or the Services will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim or one hundred pounds sterling (Β£100).
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
16. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless ResearchConnectX from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your User Content, your use of the Services, your research activities, or your breach of these Terms or applicable law.
17. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice, for example by posting the updated Terms on this page and updating the “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
18. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rights you may have where you reside.
